Bluza tropikalna M40 DAK Heer
14 czerwca 1940 roku Włochy rozpoczęły swoją ofensywę na Morzu Śródziemnym w nadziei na wyparcie Brytyjczyków i ustanowienie nowego Imperium Rzymskiego.
Niemcy, jako sojusznicy Włochów zdawali sobie sprawę z ewentualności swojego zbrojnego udziału w basenie Morza Śródziemnego, gdzie Anglia była wówczas siłą dominującą. Brak sprawności bojowej Armii Włoskiej był bowiem dobrze znany Niemieckiemu Naczelnemu Dowództwu. W rezultacie postanowiono rozpocząć badania nad mundurem tropikalnym.
Wstępne badania i prace projektowe zostały przeprowadzone przez Tropical Institute na Uniwersytecie w Hamburgu.
Efektem prac instytutu jest mundur tropikalny dla Deutsche Afrika Korps Heer M40.
Warto zaznaczyć iż opracowania instytutu dotyczyły wyłącznie mundurów dla DAK Heer.
Z kolei Luftwaffe i Kriegsmarine opracowały własne typy mundurów.

On 14 June 1940 Italy began its offensive in the Mediterranean aimed at defeating the British and recreating a new Roman Empire.
The Germans, as allies of the Italians, realized that they would eventually become involved in military operations in the Mediterranean Basin where England at the time was the dominant military power. The fact that the Italian Army lacked combat effectiveness was well known to the German High Command. As a result, the Germans began to research tropical uniforms.
Preliminary research and development were conducted by the Tropics Institute of the University of Hamburg.
The end result of the research was the German Afrika Korps M40 tropical uniform.
It is important to note that the institute’s work exclusively involved uniforms for the Afrika Korps (DAK).
Subsequently, both the Luftwaffe and the German Navy developed their own types of uniforms.
