Camouflage Field Jacket, M44 “Pea Dot Camouflage"
The M44 camouflaged field jacket with “pea dot” camouflage (Erbstarn) in denim fabric with herringbone weave (HBT) appeared for the first time in the spring of 1944 and was used until the end of the war. These uniforms were made of several different fabrics during the war, the most numerous were the denim HBT. Second most common fabric used was satin cotton.
In terms of the insignia on these uniforms, it was envisioned that only the Waffen SS eagle would be on the left sleeve. However, as can be seen in original photos from the era, soldiers treated uniform regulations quite loosely, and these field jackets often had more rank and service insignia than mandated.
