In 1943, the British Army replaced the Field Service (Forage) Cap with the Beret General Service Cap, and the Polish Armed Forces in the West, attached to the British Army, followed suit. It was not until 1944 that the Beret General Service Cap was introduced in the Polish II Corps.
Berets were already in common use in the British army and in Polish Armed Forces in the West. These berets, however, were made by stamping a single piece of felt. They were also in several colors such as black for armor, commando companies in dark green, and gray for 1SBS (1st Independent Parachute Brigade).
Badges of rank were initially worn on berets on the front left side,. Later they were placed on the Eagle Insignia.
Berets are made in sizes 55-60 cm head circumference.
